What is RSS

RSS (Really Simple Syndication, also commonly referred to as "Live Bookmarks") is a lightweight XML format for distributing syndicated news headlines and other content. Using RSS makes it easy for you to stay automatically updated about new content on websites of interest to you. It is an alternative means of accessing information via the Internet; instead of browsing your favourite websites for new information, the information can now be sent directly to you as a summary or headline with links to the full versions of the content.

After installing an RSS reader, you can add a feed manually from the Website by clicking on the "RSS" orange button next to the feed.

Alternately, you can copy the URL and paste it into your RSS reader, then follow the instructions in your RSS reader program. Your RSS reader will have a button or option to "subscribe" to or "add" the RSS feed.

Mozilla Firefox:
Live Bookmarks is a new technology in Mozilla Firefox that lets you view RSS news and blog headlines in the bookmarks toolbar or bookmarks menu. This lets you quickly see the latest headlines from your favourite sites so you can go directly to the articles that interest you - saving you time.

A site is enabled for Live Bookmarks when you see this icon on the bottom right corner of the browser. Clicking on the icon and selecting an RSS feed will bring up the Add Bookmark dialog. Select 'OK' and you will see Live Bookmarks with the rest of your bookmarks. Many people find it especially convenient to save Live Bookmarks in their Bookmarks Toolbar folder.

Once you have set up the Live Bookmark, simply open the Bookmarks sidebar and you'll see a list of headlines from your chosen RSS feeds. Clicking on any of those headlines takes you straight to that article.
